Board Meeting Minutes

February 10, 2007


The board met at the Analytical Services, Inc. facility located at 350 Voyager Way, Huntsville, Alabama. The following board representatives were present: Amy Heard (President), Georgia Wertman (President Elect), Melodie Wade (Program Chair), Gloria Stover (Past-President), Marsha Dollarhide (Secretary), John Hightower (Treasurer), and Dianne Johnson (Communications Chair).


Call to Order


Amy called the meeting to order. The January board meeting minutes were routed electronically and approved as edited.


Treasurer’s Report


The Cash Flow Report for 01/01/07 thru 01/31/07 was approved.

·   The report showed a year-to-date net loss of $33.88.

·   The abbreviated Balance Sheet totaled assets at $3,020.73.


A draft chapter budget was distributed and edited by participants. John will provide an updated version for review at the next board meeting.

 

Committee Reports


            Membership: John reported the following board members’ as paid and current: Marsha Dollarhide, Amy Heard, Georgia Wertman.


Gloria reported she has reconciled the mailing list to our ASTD Chapter Billing Service through 01/17/07. She will forward to all board members on 12 February. John will review the Treasurer’s records to determine if any additional new members joined through the chapter and update the list accordingly.


            Communications: Dianne Johnson, 2007 Communications Chair, will be responsible for maintaining the chapter email list and sending email blasts. Reminder postcards are due for mailing on Monday, 12 February. The following actions items were assigned:

Other speakers recommended by the board members included:

·   Jeff Rosen, CLP, to speak on the value and process for achieving the Certified Learning Professional (CLP) certification.

·   Eunice F. Johnson, Vice-President, Human Resources, The New York Times Broadcast Group, to speak on the subject of “Growing People”

·   Ron Kiker, Director of Technology Based Training, Coastal Industrial Security, subject TBD

 

Melodie accepted an action to ensure all presenters are aware of the chapter Presenter Guidelines, available on the chapter website.

 

            Member Relations: No report.

 

Old Business

 

·   New logo status and actions reported within the Communications Committee report.

·   John took an action item to transfer the chapter’s registered agent to himself.

·   Chapter use of credit cards for monthly meetings was tabled as Old Business for future discussion. The proposal, including annual cost and changes to processing, will be drafted for board review. Chapter event pricing will also need to be considered prior to implementing this policy.

 

New Business

 

·   Gloria will transition the teleconference regarding regional ASTD leadership opportunities to Amy.

 

·   Chapter Operational Requirements Evaluation (CORE): Gloria reported the North Alabama Chapter is 100% CORE compliant for 2006.

 

·   A discussion about charging for posting notices to members via use of the chapter list serve was held. One request has been received from a current member, Rhonda Asta. Board members approved sending the notice to members via our list serve for this request. John agreed to draft operating guidelines for chapter list serve advertising based on our discussions (usage for members is considered a membership benefit and ensure balance in member satisfaction by setting a minimum annual usage per member) and this item will be handled as old business during the next board meeting.

 

·   Amy presented Bob Pike as a potential motivational Guest Speaker for our chapter. She and Gloria spoke directly with Mr. Pike at the ASTD Leaders’ Conference. As founder and Chairman of the Bob Pike Group and Creative Training Techniques International, Inc., Bob leads session over 150 days per year on topics such as leadership, attitude, motivation, decision making, communication and personal and organizational effectiveness. Bob has been a member of ASTD since 1972, serving on the National Conference Design Committee and the ASTD National Board of Directors. If possible to combine an ASTD event with another consulting endeavor in the area, Bob’s fees will be nominal to the chapter.

 

            Amy will forward the contact information to Melodie for further exploration. Marsha             mentioned possibly combining his visit with Ms. Johnson of the New York Times for a             half-day workshop as a chapter event.

 

·   John presented pricing for chapter letterhead and envelopes. The board agreed to purchase 500 of each.

 

·   The 2007 ASTD International Conference and Expo is scheduled for Atlanta. If five chapter members plan to participate, a corporate rate can be secured. Gloria volunteered to be the Point of Contact (POC) for this and submit all applications together.

 

·   The Regional ASTD Leadership Conference will be held in Memphis, TN on April 12-13. Steve Borowiec, ASTD National Advisory Board, is chairing a monthly planning telecom for this event.

 

·   Joe Rosenlicht, representing ASTD national, was identified as our chapter coach

 

·   John assumed an action item to download the risk management assessment from the ASTD website for review.

 

2007 Goals

 

Chapter goals for 2007 were developed and are available under separate cover (ASTD 2007 Goals). Amy will compile and provide a copy to be posted on the chapter website and communicated through our quarterly chapter newsletter.
