North Alabama Chapter of ASTD, Inc.
Minutes of Board Meeting
July 12, 2006
The board meet at the ADTRAN building at 901 Explorer Boulevard. The following persons were present: Gloria Stover (president), Amy Heard (president-elect), John Hightower (treasurer), Cindy Dodd (membership chair), and Marsha Dollarhide (communications chair).
The minutes from the June 8, 2006, meeting were accepted.
John presented a treasurer’s report for May, which was accepted. John pointed to the complete breakout for the showcase on the chapter’s web site. John noted that deposit slips were ordered. The telephone bill has been paid ahead. The domain name for the web page has been paid for 7 years.
The board discussed the next newsletter. There was a suggestion to purge the list of old names. George agreed to address the issue of labels when he prints the next newsletter. Marsha will pick up, fold, and seal the next edition. There is a limit to the number of pages of the newsletter that should be in color—typically only the first and last pages.
The board approved using Survey Monkey for each month’s survey of the chapter meetings.
The board discussed how the board has the authority to adopt or amend the bylaws under Alabama law. § 10-3A-27 of the Code of Alabama 1975. The board expressed whether it was a good idea to have a special meeting to approve amendments to the bylaws. The board reached consensus that it would be a good idea to let the board retain that power so long as the chapter members received notice that the amendments were going to be made. John was tasked with looking at wording for that change.
Gloria and Amy will be attending the joint networking meeting on July 19, 2006, at 11:30 a.m. at ADTRAN.
A consultant has approached Gloria about promoting his services and paying the chapter if he gets any business. The board agreed that the consultant could buy advertising as other consultants do.
The board discussed people to recommend for a regional conference in February 2007 in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. A list was developed that Gloria will forward to the organizers.
