Board Meeting

November 4, 2003

Location: Wyle Labs Conference Room

Attendees: J. Hightower, C. Lord, W. Cantrell, B. Knox, L. King-Taylor, R. Asta

Minutes: Minutes for October were accepted with no changes.

Treasurers Report:

The treasurer’s report was submitted by Ronda Asta at meeting. Check book has balanced, however Ronda is still working of balancing the year to date report.

Programs:

James Foster is no longer available to do the November program on the 25^th. Brenda is seeking a replacement speaker for that date. Suggestions were made for: leadership training, followup with Adtran speakers, one-on-one training, weathering change in organizations, project management for trainers and others.
Brenda shared an email from Marty Eaton of Drake Tech College offering to present at ASTD and provide a site visit of the campus and specifically the Toyota Training area. Board discussed that this might be acceptable if clearly communicated that this could in no way be a "sales pitch" and that Marty be given the presenter guidelines.
Denny Smith of Calhoun college has also indicated similar interest and would need to be given the presenter guidelines as well. The guidelines will be sent to all board members and included in our new website.
December program will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 16^th at 11:30 a.m. at Sheraton (pending confirmation that they can accommodate us). Subject will be Training Tools Gift Exchange. All participants will be asked to bring a "training tool" of approx. $5.00 value/wrapped as a gift. Holiday music will be played and luncheon will include heavy finger foods and sweets. A "game" will be played to exchange gifts and let participants brainstorm uses for the tool as well as hear what the giver had in mind when selecting that item. Wendy volunteered to facilitate the discussion. There will also be a free lunch drawing.

Membership:

Member surveys were mailed out last week to evaluate last year’s programs and ask for contributions of topics for upcoming year. Also included was interest in being on the ASTD Chapter Board.
Jackie Warner from Huntsville Hospital Corporate University will be added to the corporate membership in place of Debra Dunbar.

Coordination of Newsletter Publication/ Website:

Webpage mailing – Webpage reminders seem to be working well. John will follow up on bounced emails to be sure. All board members will be provided password and instructions for use of the program.

Next Board Meeting:

Ø This was the final board meeting for 2003 unless incoming President Meka Jones wants to hold a joint board meeting/retreat before the end of the year. We may also plan this event for early January.
