Behavior Change How many times have you heard a manager privately describe an employee as being lazy,
uncooperative, unmotivated; having a "bad attitude"; or _________. (You fill in the blank.)
Employees with "bad attitudes" frustrate mangers because managers know just what they want:
energetic, cooperative, competent, detail-oriented, and caring employees. But what does it mean to
be cooperative? What is initiative? What if they've never played on a team? In this interactive
training, you will gain experience changing adjectives into actions and learn the steps necessary to
make the behaviors habits for success.

need to work together to identify and work by the values, vision, and guiding principles that build
successful teamwork. If the team is continually building on the strengths of the individual team
members, and building structure and efficiency in its processes, it will achieve greater and greater
success. This presentation will look at ways to strengthen the sense of common purpose among team
members. Learn to use the powerful forces of values and vision to unite the team and give it
direction; and learn to commit to adjusting your interaction with your team to provide an

Back to list of presenters. Stop Shooting PowerPoint Bullets at Your
Audience In the world of slide presentations, presenters continue to riddle the screen with bullets. But how
effective are these bulleted lists in a multimedia presentation? What does research tell us about how
people learn in a multimedia environment? How do humans process information? Knowing the
answers to these questions is pertinent to designing an effective PowerPoint presentation. This
presentation is a 1-hour excerpt from MOSTraining's hands-on workshop "Stop Shooting
PowerPoint Bullets at Your Audience!"

IBM, and CompTia. Donna is an active member of the American Society for Training and
Development and a member of the National Speakers Association.
Back to list of presenters. Speed Learning for Efficiency and Fun Once you realize that the human mind is designed to quickly absorb and process information,
rapid learning becomes easy, natural, and fun. Regardless of your learning style, you can vastly
improve your ability to process, retain, and recall. Training designed with these principles take less
time and is more enjoyable both for the instructor and the student. The techniques you will acquire
in this course will take both your learning and teaching experience to a new enjoyable level.

Back to list of presenters. Succession Planning With the coming exodus of Baby Boomers and national turnover at over 20%, it is amazing that
so little attention is paid to succession planning at all levels of the organization. Some needs might
be met with a comprehensive cross-training program. This is much more difficult to accomplish in
the technical and managerial ranks. For all the emphasis on standard job descriptions, the reality is
that each person shapes a job by personality, strengths, and preferences.
This presentation will walk participants through the creation of a job model that can be used to
customize a profile for identifying best-fit internal candidates who can be groomed for succession.
The benefits of a comprehensive succession plan don't stop at preparedness. By itself, it can
improve job satisfaction and contribute to better retention rates. It can encourage the skills
development needed for the future and make better use of the talent available. The modeling
technique prevents overqualification of job requirements which can escalate costs and lengthen
search process.

Back to list of presenters. Appreciative Facilitation We learn best in a safe environment where we have the opportunity to experience new concepts
and data in ways that are relevant to our personal lives and experience. We retain and use new
information when we have the opportunity to reflect on the new experiences and the new information
to discover ways to apply that new knowledge. Experiential learning (EL) engages people in
activities that involve the whole person, drawing out inherent skills and abilities, and tapping
creativity and imagination. Appreciative inquiry (AI) creates a safe environment that will support
learning. When trainers or coaches practice the principles of AI as a foundation for their facilitation,
it suggests that they believe in the inherent abilities of the participants, they encourage and hold high
expectations, and they pay attention to what is working and when the group members are at their
best.
About the presenter: Carolyn R. Weisenberger, B.S., L.P.N., is a
facilitator, trainer, and AI consultant who has worked with hundreds of corporations, community

the creativity award from the Association for Experiential Education. Carolyn uses AI, other
strength-based tools, and experiential education as a dynamic framework for helping clients explore
best practices, discover goals and visions, and create strategic plans for success. She co-authored
From Conflict to Collaboration, MTC Low Ropes Course Facilitator's Manual, and
Inspire Cooperation. Carolyn is a member of the Association for Experiential Education and
American Society of Training & Development.
Back to list of presenters. If You Want To Be Relevant, the Last Thing You Want To Be
Is A Trainer! Quite often, the first thing that we, as performance-improvement professionals, are called upon
to do when an "organizational problem" is detected is train. In most situations, training is the last
thing that should be done because it would be the least effective and least efficient method available.
This presentation will introduce you to other methods of performance improvement that can be both
more effective and efficient than training, and that will help make you an invaluable member of your
organization.

In 1966, Peter Drucker wrote a best selling book titled The Effective Executive. Forty-
two years latter, individuals and organizations are still struggling to control their workloads, tame
the "digital deluge," and balance lifestyles. The Gulas Group has been working since 1989 helping
individuals, teams, and organizations make better choices and control their workload. Years of
worldwide research by Priority Management Systems, Inc., and the Gulas Group has provided six
key processes that once masteredand despite today's information tsunamiwill balance
your life and make you an effective executive.
These six processes can be used to create organizational consistency in 16 workload skills from
collaboration to taking control of your schedule. The system can be used with software platforms like
Microsoft Outlook, Lotus Notes, GroupWise, and sophisticated customer-relations management
(CRM) packages like Goldmine, ACT, or Landslide. This can also apply to paper planners and smart
phones.
This session will outline these six important processes and discuss two in particular. The session
will also provide some real-world examples of integrating these two processes into a software
platform like Microsoft Outlook.

why employees join, stay, and leave your organization.

Back to list of presenters. Developing a Coaching and Mentoring Program in Your
Organization, With unemployment rates low and a companies struggling with recruitment and retention issues,
corporations today are searching for ways to reduce turnover, guide new employees, transition
employees into leadership roles, and accelerate the development of the talent within. Coaching and
mentoring programs can give companies an advantage. ASTD reports that over 75% of executives
surveyed target mentoring as one of the key factors in their business success. Business Finance
Magazine reports that 77% of companies credited mentoring with increasing employee retention
and performance. The great advantage of coaching and mentoring programs, when used as a
developmental process, is that they provide opportunities for one-on-one training, guiding,
instruction, modeling of desired values, and much more. To be successful, a well-defined process,
support structure, and tools are required to ensure reliability, sustainability, and broad-based effects.
