Is CPLP certification right for you? What about your organization? What are the benefits and how do they compare to the financial costs and time commitment?
Presenter: Terry Hanna participated in our local chapter’s recent CPLP Study Group and passed the CPLP exam in October 2009. His passion is helping people be the best that they can be – at work and in life. He most recently held the position of Training Specialist at BP in Decatur where he was in charge of the chemical plant operator training program. He also has considerable experience delivering core skill training such as problem solving, decision making, risk analysis, time management, teamwork, listening skills, etc. He has a BS in Chemical Engineering from Carnegie-Mellon University and a BS in Psychology from Athens State University.
Description: Is CPLP™ certification right for you? What about your organization? What are the benefits and how do they compare to the financial costs and time commitment? We’ll explore the answers to these questions and more as we review the content and requirements for the ASTD Certification Institute’s credential, the Certified Professional in Learning and Performance™ (CPLP™).
We will review the credentialing process for individuals which includes: 1) the required industry-related experience; 2) successfully passing a knowledge-based examination; and 3) submission of a work product that meets performance standards. You will learn of the nine Areas of Expertise included in the CPLP™ and how they fit into the ASTD competency model.
We will also discuss plans by the local ASTD North Alabama chapter to launch a new study group in 2010 to assist its membership with the knowledge portion of the program.
More information on the CPLP™ credential may be found at www.cplp.astd.org.
Girl Scouts of North-Central Alabama
Before Mr. Hanna begins, Marcy Miller of the North Central Alabama Girl Scouts will deliver a short presentation on their Scholarship Program.
Girl Scouts of North-Central Alabama is a United Way community partner and serves more than 13,000 girls and an additional 5,000 in special programs across 36 counties, ages 5-17, who are developing crucial life skills that help them grow courageous and strong so they can make wise choices in today’s world and beyond.
The Girl Scout Leadership Experience incorporates the Discover, Connect, and Take Action keys to leadership. Girl Scout experiences are also, as much as possible, girl led and encourage learning by doing (experiential learning), and cooperative learning. These three processes promote the fun and friendship that have always been so integral to Girl Scouting. Girl Scouts have opportunities to experience the three leadership keys through our five initiatives:
- Financial Literacy
- Healthy Living Science
- Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM)
- Leadership
- Outreach Programs
